USIJ Applauds the Introduction of the SUCCESS Act of 2018

On July 19th, Representatives Barbara Comstock and Alma S. Adams, Ph.D introduced HR6390, the Study of Underrepresented Classes Engineering and Science Success (SUCCESS) Act of 2018.

The Alliance of U.S. Startups and Inventors for Jobs (USIJ) applauds Representatives Comstock and Adams for introducing this critical legislation. USIJ Executive Director Chris Israel issued the following statement:

“We applaud Representatives Comstock and Adams for introducing the Study of Underrepresented Classes Chasing Engineering and Science Success (SUCCESS) Act of 2018. As a group of nearly 50 startups, inventors, investors, and entrepreneurs, we share the goal closing the gender, race and income gap in patenting rates.

A robust innovation economy depends on full participation from the brightest minds in our nation. Unfortunately, recent studies have shown that there is a significant gap in the number of patents applied for and obtained by women, socially disadvantaged individuals, and economy disadvantaged individuals and the number of patents applied for and obtained by individuals from other groups. We thank Representatives Comstock and Adams for their leadership in introducing bipartisan legislation to address this gap in patenting rates. We urge Congress to advance the SUCCESS Act and promote a robust innovation economy.”
